Mr. Durr is the President and Chief Operations Officer of Durr Mechanical Construction. He has participated in and gained years of experience in construction management associated with power generating, commercial HVAC and industrial processing facilities. His responsibilities include chairing quarterly meetings with estimating, field operations, support staff and marketing consultants, reviewing job costs and job progress with project managers, establishing discounts and markups in final estimating reviews, negotiating contracts with G.C.’s, C.M.’s and owners, reviewing sales leads and deciding what or what not to pursue. Mr. Durr is also involved in all important job decisions with Project Managers and Vice Presidents of Construction.
Durr Mechanical Construction began operations in 1985 and has established itself as one of the Tri-state areas leading Specialty Contractors competing in the Power/ Process and Heavy Commercial HVAC markets. Work generally performed by Durr Mechanical includes rigging, setting, assembly, alignment and grouting of equipment such as electric, steam or gas driven generators, pumps, compressors and fans as well as turbines, heat exchangers, vessels, boilers and HVAC packaged units. Durr Mechanical also specializes in the erection and joining of high and low pressure piping systems comprised of carbon steel, brass, copper, plastics and fiberglass as well as more exotic alloys such as stainless steel, chrome-moly and P-91 materials.
Some of the more notable projects in NYC where Durr Mechanical performed the mechanical work include the Centerline and Balance of Plant Piping systems and Equipment installation at the recently completed Astoria Energy Plant, NYC Department of Environmental Protection’s Newtown Creek Central Heating Plant and Con Edison’s East River Repowering Project’s Balance of Plant Piping and Equipment installation. Durr Mechanical recently booked the $108 million HVAC contract for the NYC Department of Environmental Protection’s Croton Water Filtration Plant located in the Bronx. It is the largest “H” contract ever awarded in NYC and is scheduled for completion in 2011.
Mr. Durr began his career at Durr Mechanical Construction in 1986. Prior to holding the title of President and Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Durr achieved success in various leadership positions. As Office Manager and Safety Director, Officer in Charge and, later on, Vice President, Mr. Durr’s wide-ranging duties included estimating, project management, accounting and cost control functions. As well, he oversaw all project management operations in order to ensure proper direction and conformance with company goals.
Prior to joining Durr Mechanical Construction, Mr. Durr organized and facilitated educational and safety programs and seminars concerning the mechanical construction industry for the Steamfitting Industry Promotion Fund of New York and New Jersey. He implemented programs developed by the Board of Directors of the Mechanical Contractors Association of New York and other industry committees sponsored by the promotion fund.
Mr. Durr graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Bucknell University in 1982 and completed the Project Management Program at the Mechanical Contractors Association of America in 1990. He is also an NYC Certified Site Safety Manager.6
